A Poem
Today, I part with this poem which captures time and running. It takes its cue from the sprint event which is one of my favorite sports.
Time and timing in sports are both friends and enemies. Friends because it favors the winners; enemies because if disfavors the loosers. However and whatever they are, they are relatively important to anybody, sportsman, athlete or otherwise.
Runners
Are time’s
Rivals, for they’re
Always tempted to tease,
Test and toss like weightless
Clouds, bursting and darting
In split seconds
Coming in
First.
But
Time casts
Its numb strides
Against the runners’ struts,
Carrying each moment past seconds,
Dislodging, wrinkling the swift
Attempt to advance
Last lost
Step.
As I park, anybody really can loose no step, can not slip from time, can part with it. Every step is with time, and every time, we advance a step. Life is full of time and timing. Life is full of steps to take. Each time we take a step, we pray time will favor it. Every time, we step forward, we carry time, or time carries us. For whatever cause we make our steps, time and timing can both be friends and enemies. Rivals they are.
